You Are a Huge Risk
You think because you finished your pre-licensing class and passed your state real estate board exam you have what it takes to be a successful real estate agent. Unfortunately, passing the exam is only the tip of the iceberg. At the beginning of your real estate career you are what I like to call, “a walking, talking liability”. Buyers and sellers have a lot of money tied up in a real estate transaction. One wrong move from you can cause them to lose money and you could lose your recently gained real estate license. You Don’t Know What You’re Doing
Since you don’t know what you’re doing, it is important to affiliate with a broker who offers extensive training. Training that teaches you what actually happens in a real estate transaction. You learned theory in your pre-licensing class, now you need to learn what’s done in practice. Every jurisdiction has their own Standards of Practice that you need to know. And by the way, your friends will not want you to represent them because…you don’t know what you’re doing.Starting a Business is Hard
Successful real estate agents make being a real estate agent look easy. It’s not. It takes focus, consistency and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. As you begin your career you will find that everyday is a hustle. You will be throwing a lot of different stuff up against the wall hoping that something sticks and delivers you a client. It can take as long as six months to get a client…all while you are spending money on your new business. It gets stressful when you keep seeing your bank balance decrease and your spouse or significant other growing impatient. You Will Doubt Yourself
Your friends won’t work with you, you’re spending money and no money is coming in, and you don’t see any business in sight. Right about now you begin questioning your decision to become a real estate agent. You start asking yourself whether or not you should start looking for a “regular” job…one with a steady paycheck. This Too Shall Pass
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If it’s any comfort…we’ve all been in your shoes. We know the difficulty of starting a real estate business. Don’t be afraid to ask the agents in your office for help or tips on what you should be doing. Ask them if they need help with an open house. Be proactive in all that you do and don’t wait for business to come to you…it won’t. You too can have a successful real estate career if you put in the time and the work. Be prosperous!Enjoy less stress by having smoother transactions by implementing these simple strategies today!
